Measures to ease the set-up procedures of an SME |

| According to an article published in the Greek Newspaper Naftemporiki (26.1.2007), the members of the E.U. will take measures to halve the time required for setting up a small to medium-sized enterprise (S.M.E.). Currently the time, the documents and the cost for establishing a company vary significantly between the E.U. states. In some countries the set-up procedure takes 60 days and costs thousands of euros, while in other countries not more than 10 days are required and the relevant cost does not exceed 100 euros. In Portugal, the 3 ministries that were involved in the set-up process formed a body that led to the shrinkage of the time required for the completion of the set-up procedure to 75 minutes. The E.U. will base its efforts on the Portuguese model so that on a Pan-European level the time required to set up an S.M.E. will not exceed an hour. |
